Well since humane is characterized by tenderness, compassion, mercy and sympathy for people and animals, esp. for the suffering or distressed I find it hard to believe that humane slaughter even exist or that anyone would even call the slaughter of animals humane. It seems to me that it would be humane if you spared the animals life.

You might want to give this place a try:

Health Valley Organics or Alive Organics
28 Drynan St., Bayswater WA 6053
Ph: 9371 9908
Web: http://www.valley.iinet.net.au/

They Specialise in Raw, Unprocessed, Nutritious Foods but yesterday I noticed that they also sell lots of organic meat. This is a very large full service organic shop.

They also have Beginner Raw Food Classes.

The shop is located in an out of the way location that is about 1.5 Km from the Bayswater Train Station.

Hi Oceanview, With regards to organic meat and 'humane' slaughter: - I believe that organic meat can mean that the animal has been raised more humanely, however they still just get sold and slaughtered at the same place as any other animals are slaughtered.

I have been thinking of compiling a list of places that sell 'Free Range" meat. It is definitely a step in the right direction for people to buy only free range meat and eggs. When it comes to cruelty - apart from veal, chickens and pigs get the worst deal so it would definitely be worthwhile for people to know where they can source free range meat and eggs.

If I get time to do it, I will post it for you.

Organic doesn't have anything to do with treatment of the animals, humane or otherwise. All it means is the animal was fed "organic" food when they were "raising" the animal ie. no pesticides, no hormone treatment, no gmo etc.

Organic farmers can still forcefeed them, shut them in tiny cages and inflict whatever other abuses they wish to. Oceanview may actually mean "humanely raised and slaughtered organic meat" but I'm not sure if there even is such a product.

To learn about the Humane Myth please visit this website:

http://www.humanemyth.org/index.htm

----------------------------------------------------------

About HumaneMyth.org (taken from the website)

We are a community of former farmers, animal rescuers, animal sanctuary founders, educators, and artists working to create a just and nonviolent future.

Currently, both the animal-using industry and some animal advocacy organizations are propagating the idea that it is possible to use and kill animals in a manner that can be fairly described as respectful or compassionate or humane. We believe that this "Humane Myth" misrepresents the realities of animal use, and cultivates a positive image of activities that are neither just nor kind nor sustainable.

The purpose of this web site is to correct the misinformation that is associated with the Humane Myth, and to inspire a form of working for the peaceful transformation of our society that fully respects the inherent dignity and worth of animals and people alike.

----------------------------------------------------------

I hope all of you find this site useful.
